Hours Of Operation:

Overview:

There’s nothing quite like soccer in the Big Apple. That’s why we’ve partnered with multiple pickup leagues across New York City to bring you all more field options! These leagues host their matches year-round on dozens of unique pitches across NYC, and as part of this partnership, we are bringing Plei App games to their spaces in order to fill in on days that the leagues aren’t running.

That being said, these blogs will answer all the questions that you usually ask before you head out to play some ball, like…

Is it a 6v6, 7v7, 8v8 or 9v9 field? Artificial grass or natural? What are the exact measurements? Where should I park? What subway train do I take and where do I get off? Are there good food/drink options nearby? Are there any other cool things to do or see in the surrounding area?

Fear not: all these questions and more will be answered within each blog, so you can confidently suit up, head out and have fun playing some pickup footy, New York style. 🗽😎

Red Hook Park stands out as being a recreational area that caters to a number of different audiences.

Located in the laid-back seaside neighborhood of Red Hook, this recreational area stretches across 4+ blocks, which makes sense because of all the activities that go down here.

Aside from the beautiful game - which we’ll dive into in the next section - you’ll find spaces for handball, basketball and baseball. One of the highlight amenities, though, is the Olympic-sized swimming pool, which is a prime location for those looking to cool off during those hot Brooklyn summer months.

Other amenities include a running track and an onsite recreation center equipped with cardio equipment, weightlifting & fitness classes.

Whatever your prime interest is, rest assured that Red Hook Park will leave you satisfied. Its lush grounds and athletic facilities offer more than just exhilarating soccer matches; they provide an opportunity for active recreation and a chance to soak in the surrounding urban energy.

About the park

What are the basics about this field?

There are numerous turf field spaces at Red Hook Park, with four of them dedicated to the beautiful game.

The one that you see above is just one of the fields where we will be hosting Plei App games. Bordered by Bay Street, Hicks Street, Lorraine Street and Henry Street, this turf space has lines for multiple field sizes.

That being said, you can look forward to games here as small as 7v7 and as big as 11v11.

Look forward to the same sort of versatility in the other three field spaces. Refer to the photo below to know which field you should be heading to.

As this is a public park, rest assured that you won’t be left in the dark during matches later in the evening. Once the sun goes down, the lights turn on, setting the stage for some authentic nighttime Brooklyn footy.

Combine professional lighting with views of both the Brooklyn & Manhattan skyline, and just like that you have all your boxes checked.

Or almost all of them. Keep reading for more essential information that you’ll want to keep in mind before you head out to play. ⏬

All Plei App games that take place here are hosted thanks to a partnership with Brooklyn Pickup Soccer Club. Find them available on the Plei App today. 📲

The Plei App first hosted a pickup game at Red Hook Park on March 7, 2024, and we continue to play here today.

Where do I park/what subway/bus stop do I get off at?

Your best bet for parking will be on the streets. Depending on which field your pickup game has been assigned to, make sure to park as close as possible. Parallel street parking is available on every street, so choose wisely.

As we always mention, we aren’t responsible for anything that may happen to your car, so make sure to be responsible. 🙂

The closest subway to Red Hook Park is just a few blocks away and offers F and G service.

Smith-9 Sts

Once you get off the train, you have your choice of walking/jogging a 0.9 mile distance to the park, which we personally recommend. If for whatever reason you want to hop on a bus, then be sure to head to the stop that we linked below.

9 St/Smith St

From here, just stay on the B61 bus until you reach any of the stops located on Lorraine Street, ideally the ones below.

Finally, if you plan to arrive by Citi Bike, be sure to drop it off at the station we linked below.

What’s the best/easiest way to access the field?

We’d be here forever if we went in depth on what the best entry points for each field are.

We recommend you save the photo we included in the first section, which labels all the field spaces at Red Hook Park. It shouldn’t take you more than a minute or so to find a gate entrance to your designated pitch.

If you do end up running into some trouble, though, just drop a message in the Plei App Game Chat and ask for help!

(IN PROGRESS)

Where can I go to grab some food or drink around here?

Red Hook is a neighborhood known for its unique mix of homey eateries and quirky bars, among other attractions.

We’ve provided four food options that you can check out if you happen to get hungry after your pickup soccer game.

Red Hook Recreation Center Mobile Food Truck (Located on Bay Street in between Henry & Clinton Streets.) - We can’t guarantee that the food truck will be there on the day of your pickup game. If it’s not, then refer to these three other options below.

Hometown Bar-B-Que (PENDING) - Open since September 2013, this BBQ joint specializes in authentic, pit-smoked meats prepared in the classic Southern technique of smoking on oak wood. They also incorporate a variety of flavor profiles that represent their local communities. You won’t regret grabbing some takeout from here after your pickup game.

Wing Hua (PENDING.) - Your typical Chinese takeout in Brooklyn, located just a couple blocks north of Red Hook Park.. It just never gets old… does it?

OCKY WAY (PENDING.) - SUREEEEEEEEEEE!

About Red Hook Park

This neighborhood park is bursting with activities. Groups of friends come out to play handball, basketball, or soccer, and plenty of kids cavort in its popular playground. Whenever it's hot out, people cool down in the Olympic-size pool. Those looking for a workout go for a jog around the running track or take advantage of the onsite recreation center, which offers cardio equipment, weight lifting, and exercise classes.
