Way back in July 2019, the Plei App expanded outside Florida for the first time, partnering with multiple facilities in Houston, Texas. 🚀 We are excited to announce a brand-new partnership, this time with the Matias Almeyda Training Center! As part of an ongoing blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner facilities in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬
You can get that experience over at Matias Almeyda Training Center, a full-fledged indoor and outdoor complex in Northwest Houston, established in 2017 by - you guessed it - Matías “El Pelado” Almeyda. 🌟
In his 20-year playing career, the Argentine - who played as a defensive midfielder - suited up for a number of teams across Europe and South America, most notably River Plate, Sevilla, Lazio, Parma and Inter Milan. 😲
He also appeared in two World Cups for La Albiceleste. 🇦🇷
Following retirement, Almeyda decided to take up managerial duties, beginning with River Plate. Throughout his coaching career, he has already experienced plenty of success, winning titles at nearly every club he represents. 🏆
In 2018, he became head coach of the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS, coinciding with the grand opening of this Houston facility. 👌
Today, he manages AEK Athens in the Greek Super League. 🇬🇷
His decision to found a soccer complex in the United States comes from his love for the beautiful game and his passion for developing future talents starting from a young age. And what better way to go about this than to open your own facility in the country you’re actively coaching a pro team in? 😅
Boasting a total of five (5) fields, this facility has turned into a hub for local talents to improve their game as well as their chances of getting to the next level. 🔝

The best part is that Almeyda didn’t just open the complex, stamp his name on it, and leave. Since its establishment, he’s been involved in every step of the academy’s development, arriving to oversee operations every now and then in his free time. 🫡
He also hand-picked every member of the coaching staff, who all follow the same concepts and instructional systems put forth by Almeyda. ✍️
This elite coaching group consists of former players with experience in 1st Division Leagues, Youth Farm Development Teams, and internationally-competitive games including Copa Libertadores. ✨
Alemyda’s played for and managed some of the biggest clubs in Argentina, Italy, Spain, Mexico and now Greece, seeing success wherever he went, so there’s nobody more equipped for the job of developing future talent. 👏
